Children and Youth

From September to June, we have a full Religious Exploration Program for children during our Sunday morning service.  During the summer the nursery is open and fun classroom activities are offered for children, often outside.

Visiting children are invited to join with others of their age group. If you arrive about 10 minutes before the service begins, greeters at the door can show you to the Religious Exploration wing, and a member of our Religious Exploration Team will introduce you and your children to leaders of the appropriate age groups.

Typically, children attend the first part of the worship service with their families in the Sanctuary upstairs, and then go to their programs after “Time for All Ages” where the minister will invite the children to the front for a story or activity.  Children are welcome to remain in the sanctuary for the entire service if you wish.

You can also accompany your child when leaving the service, to see that they are comfortable.  The children’s program usually runs around 45 minutes.  Children will greet parents in Fellowship Hall downstairs between 11 and 11:15 after the service. You can contact the Religious Exploration Chairperson if you have any questions before or after your visit.

Registration and Communications

Please register your children when you first visit. This gives parents the opportunity to inform us of allergies and other special circumstances surrounding their Sunday school time. You do not have to be a member to register.  A member of our Religious Exploration Committee will be glad to assist you.  Our weekly church wide newsletter, “The Flame and Chalice” carries communications from the REC as well as a weekly update in each Sunday’s Order of Service from the teachers about what is going on in the classrooms.

Fall 2026

Sunday Mornings- “Soul Matters” curriculum will be followed for classes involving children ages 4- 12 years which corresponds to the adult services often following the same themes.

We are working on a schedule starting in September for Family Dinners that will bring everyone together using “The Soulful Home” packets tying family time in with their Sunday experience.  Look for more information coming soon.

Nursery Care

Families with young children can count on the loving care provided to children ages six weeks to three years in our Nursery/Playroom.  Parents may join their children as they process to the classrooms and nursery.  Our nursery is located on the same level as our Fellowship Hall.

The child-friendly nursery space is well stocked with toys, books, and hugs. Parents who wish to keep infants with them are welcome to bring babies to the sanctuary for the Sunday Worship Service.  Families should provide a labeled bag containing any items necessary for the care and comfort of their babies and young children, including diapers and wipes.

When to Stay Home

We request that children who are ill or feeling unwell not be brought to the church to avoid the spread of contagious illnesses. As general guidelines, please do not bring children who in the past 24 hours have experienced:

  • Fever
  • Rash
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Runny nose (unless the mucus has been clear)
