The Unitarian Universalist Church of Manchester has plenty of volunteer opportunities. One of the easiest ways to volunteer is joining a committee! Every member is welcome to join, and committee work is a great way to feel more involved in our community. Our committees fill important roles amongst the Church, such as helping manage our finances, rentals, maintenance, yard work, membership, and much more. If you would like more information about each committee, the chairperson’s email will be included in each drop down menu.

The UUCM Building Committee is comprised of a group of volunteers with various talents that keep our 100+ year old building functioning and well maintained.  Our primary role is maintaining the physical aspects of the church by identifying, planning, and arranging the completion of both necessary and desirable maintenance, repair, and improvement activities to protect and enhance the building.  Smaller projects are typically completed by one or more committee members, with oversight of contractors for larger, more intricate or specialized projects and inspections.  We also assist the Grounds Committee with various tasks such yard cleanup, pruning, mowing, planting and watering.

The UUCM Building Use Committee oversees the management and scheduling of church facilities, ensuring they are maintained, utilized effectively, and meet the needs of the congregation. This committee typically handles responsibilities such as scheduling events, maintaining the campus, and planning for future facility needs.

The finance committee provides overall financial oversight of our church society. Its members help to ensure that our organization has the necessary resources to accomplish our mission today and into the future.

The committee is charged with developing a proposed annual operating budget, regularly monitoring the financial position of the society, managing our Endowment investments through the Endowment sub committee, and overseeing the raising of funds through our annual Pledge Canvass and fundraising events.

The committee consists of a chairperson, treasurer, collector, chair of the Endowment sub committee, and at least one member at large.

Our Grounds team works spring through fall to make sure our gardens, yards, and plant life around our building are trimmed, watered, and well loved. Yard cleanup dates are scheduled semi-regularly as needed to clear the church yards of fallen sticks and branches, tend to our flower gardens, and to keep our benches clean and usable.

Our hospitality volunteers run our snack hour! Along side our Kitchen Manager Barbara, hospitality volunteers brew the coffee and set out our snacks for coffee hour, serve the snacks when needed, and clean up the Fellowship Hall and kitchen afterwards.

Our Membership team is dedicated to welcoming and orienting new faces within our community. We’ll help you learn more about the church and what membership means should you choose to pursue it. You’ll find us greeting you at the door every Sunday, ready to help you find your way. Look for someone on our team to help you make introductions if you’re shy, or help you find your place in the community as you settle in long-term. Need a name tag? Want to sign up to receive communications from us? Just ask!

The RE Committee manages our childcare services. Our basement has several classrooms and a nursery area that volunteers staff every week. Our RE team puts together lessons, crafts, stories, and activities for the kids. Our services usually have a Time For All Ages at the beginning, and afterwards we sing our kids out as they follow RE volunteers down to the classrooms. For more information of our childcare services, please visit our Childcare page!

The purpose of the Social Responsibility Committee is to give church members and regular visitors a way to join others to work for social justice, progressive political change, LGBTQ+ rights, and a healthier environment, while exercising civic engagement with the Greater Manchester community and beyond.

Recent and ongoing areas of focus are fighting food insecurity, protecting immigrant rights, joining community initiatives that support the homeless population in our city, advocating for environmental equity, promoting voter turnout, combating threats to voting rights, and informing our fellow congregants of upcoming state legislative and municipal issues to support or oppose.

The Green Team sub-committee advocates for environmentally sustainable practices and policies within our church organization. The team also promotes sustainable living at home for our members.

The SR Committee manages Share-the-Plate, the monthly donation of plate collections to local non-profits. The committee also manages the weekly collection of non-perishable food items for delivery to a local food pantry, as well as the periodic collection of practical items to assist homeless residents in our city.

The SR Committee often partners with UU Action NH and other non-profit advocacy groups in our city and state.
